The premium Philips cardiac platform — and the one where buying the wrong configuration is the most expensive mistake available.
The Philips EPIQ CVx is the premium cardiovascular ultrasound platform in the Philips line, built for demanding echocardiography — advanced quantification, 3D and transesophageal work in hospital echo labs and cardiology practices. It sits above the Affiniti CVx, and the gap between them is largely in the imaging chain and in what the software will do.
Because it is a premium platform, it is also the system where a configuration mismatch costs the most. A buyer paying for an EPIQ expects capability that a lower-specified machine simply will not have enabled.
Establish the configuration before anything else

Get the enabled options list against the serial number, in writing, before any money moves. On a premium platform this is not a formality — it is most of what distinguishes one unit from another.

Known failure points
Matrix and 3D probe condition. These transducers are the most expensive components in the category. Inspect and photograph carefully; a damaged matrix probe can cost a substantial fraction of the entire system.
TEE probe integrity. Bite damage and shaft compromise. Ask about leakage testing history rather than assuming.
Standard probe wear. Lens delamination and cable strain, as on every ultrasound platform.
Touch panel and monitor. Check for dead zones on both.
Service and support path. Premium platforms attract premium service arrangements. Confirm what support is available and at what level before buying, so the running cost is understood rather than discovered.
Patient data. Confirm the seller has cleared stored studies before shipment.
Pre-purchase inspection checklist
- Get the enabled application packages confirmed against the serial number
- Confirm the software revision and what it permits
- List every transducer by model number, with lens and cable photographs
- Inspect any matrix or 3D probe with particular care
- Inspect any TEE probe and ask about leakage testing history
- Check the monitor and touch panel across their full surfaces
- Establish the service and support path before purchase
- Ask for exported sample images rather than screen photographs
- Confirm stored patient data has been removed
- Measure the full delivery route
