MedEquipExchange

About

Equipment that has more work left in it, priced in the open.

MedEquipExchange is a marketplace for used, refurbished, and surplus medical equipment — sourced from vetted American companies, sold to buyers worldwide, at prices you can see without asking.

The problem

An enormous amount of capable medical equipment changes hands every year, and almost none of it does so in the open. A health system replaces a monitoring fleet. A practice consolidates two locations into one. A lease ends. A surgery center changes its service mix. In every case, equipment with years of useful life left goes looking for its next owner — and the practice that needs it has no straightforward way to find out that it exists, let alone what it costs.

The channels that do exist run on inquiry. You find something that might be right, you submit a form, you wait, and eventually a number arrives — by which point you have spent a week to learn one thing that could have been on the screen from the start. Compare three units and you have three of those conversations running at different speeds.

The approach

Three decisions shape the whole exchange.

Every item shows its price

The seller sets it, it appears on the listing, and it is what a buyer pays. No inquiry to find out what something costs, no waiting, and no wondering whether the number you were quoted is the number someone else was quoted. Sellers keep full control of their own pricing; the exchange simply requires that the number be visible.

Sellers are vetted before they list

Companies apply and are reviewed individually. Approval is granted against a single standard — accurate condition disclosure, clear ownership, itemized accessory lists, photographs of the actual unit, and the ability to fulfilll — and it is kept by continuing to meet it. A buyer purchasing equipment they cannot stand in front of is buying the accuracy of a description, so the network is kept small enough that those descriptions can be relied on.

US supply, worldwide demand

Sellers are American companies, deliberately. US surplus is deep, well-documented and turns over quickly, and it is precisely what buyers in Latin America, Africa and elsewhere cannot source domestically. Buyers can be anywhere. Geography decides freight cost and import requirements, not who is allowed to buy.

Where things stand

The exchange is being built and the initial seller network is being assembled. Applications from equipment dealers, refurbishers, health system surplus programs, transition specialists, and finance companies are being reviewed now, and listings open once that first group is in place.

Buyers can join the notification list to hear the day equipment goes live, and are welcome to tell us what they are sourcing in the meantime.

Two ways in.

If your company sells used or surplus medical equipment, the network is being approved now. If you're sourcing equipment, tell us what you need.
