Used GE Vivid Q Ultrasound
A portable cardiovascular system whose value sits almost entirely in its probes and its licensed cardiac packages.
The GE Vivid Q is a portable cardiovascular ultrasound system — echocardiography in a package that can be carried to the patient rather than the other way round. It is used in cardiology practices, mobile echo services, veterinary cardiology and surgical settings where a full cart system is impractical.
On the used market it is bought almost exclusively for cardiac work, which makes two things decisive: the probes and the licensed software packages.
What actually determines the purchase

Ask for the enabled options list against the serial number. A Vivid Q described as capable of strain analysis may simply be a machine whose model line supports it.

Known failure points
Probe lens and cable damage. As with every ultrasound system, the transducers carry the cost and the risk. Ask for photographs of each lens face and the full cable run to the connector.
TEE probe condition. If a transesophageal probe is included, it deserves separate scrutiny: bite damage, shaft integrity, and a history of electrical leakage testing. A failed TEE probe is a very expensive surprise.
Battery degradation. Expect to replace the battery on any portable of this age and budget for it rather than discovering it.
Licensed packages. The most common post-purchase disappointment, and entirely avoidable by asking before rather than after.
Connector pins and ports. Check each port and each connector; repeated shipping bends pins.
Pre-purchase inspection checklist
- List every included probe by model number, in writing
- Ask for lens-face and cable photographs for each transducer
- If a TEE probe is included, ask about leakage testing history and inspect the shaft
- Get the enabled cardiac software packages confirmed against the serial number
- Ask about battery age and runtime
- Confirm the power supply, cart or case and any accessories are included
- Ask for exported sample images, not screen photographs
- Confirm DICOM or export capability if you need to move studies
