Used Candela GentleMax Laser

An aesthetic platform where the machine is the easy part and the transfer paperwork is the hard part.

The Candela GentleMax is a dual-wavelength aesthetic laser combining a 755 nm alexandrite and a 1064 nm Nd:YAG source in one platform, used for hair removal across a range of skin types and for vascular and pigmented lesion work. It is one of the most traded aesthetic platforms on the used market, because practices change service mix frequently and these systems outlast the business decisions that bought them.

It is also the category where a used purchase most often goes wrong for reasons that have nothing to do with the equipment.

Ask about transfer before you ask about anything else

Aesthetic laser manufacturers commonly require a system to be re-registered or transferred to a new owner before it can be serviced, supported, or in some cases operated with manufacturer backing. A platform that cannot be transferred is a platform you cannot get serviced.

Confirm, in writing and before purchase: whether the manufacturer will transfer this specific serial number to you, what that costs, and what service arrangements are available afterwards. A seller who cannot answer this has not answered the most important question about the machine.

Known failure points

Delivery fibre damage. Fibres are consumable and fail from bending and handling. Confirm condition and have a replacement cost in mind.

Cryogen system faults. The cooling delivery is integral to how the platform treats. A system with a faulty cooling circuit is not usable as intended.

Handpiece wear. Distance gauges and windows take damage. Inspect each handpiece individually.

Calibration drift. Ask for the last calibration record and plan for calibration after relocation.

Transferability. Not a fault, but the failure that costs buyers the most.

  • Establish what transfer costs and what service is available afterwards
  • List every included handpiece with spot size and condition
  • Confirm the cryogen cooling system is functional and test it if possible
  • Confirm cryogen canister supply and cost where the system is going
  • Inspect the delivery fibre and budget for replacement
  • Ask for the last calibration record and any usage counters
  • Confirm electrical requirements against the destination room
  • Ask your state what operator credentialing applies to laser treatment where you practise
